Newcastle Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme (PSDS)
Scope of work
EQUANS supported Newcastle City Council to obtain funding from the Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme; from the initial application through to project delivery, which involved carrying out feasibility studies, identifying areas where the highest carbon and energy savings could be achieved and producing a net zero roadmap. Tailored plans were developed to get projects off the ground and Newcastle City Council tasked EQUANS with decarbonising 12 significant buildings across the region. These are:
– Blandford House Discovery Museum
– Palatine Products
– Theatre Royal
– Trampoline Park
– Your Homes Newcastle office
– Gosforth Pool
– City Library
– East End Pool
– Walker Activity Dome
– Newcastle Civic Centre
– Newington Road Depot
Route to decarbonisation
BLANDFORD HOUSE DISCOVERY MUSEUM
The museum tasked EQUANS with seeking a solution to the existing glazing. 300+ of the existing windows were single glazed and in need of secondary glazing as well as a refurbishment to the existing. Due to the size of the building, c1200 of the lights had also not been replaced and were starting to surpass their design life.
EQUANS implemented secondary glazing to 197 windows, 1150 LED lights were replaced across various locations within the building and air curtain and fans were installed, to control and reserve heat to the main foyer.
Additionally, EQUANS connected the Museum to the Helix district heating network, providing low carbon heat for the building.
Result
These measures have saved 5608 tonnes of CO2.
