CASE STUDY: Serco

Serco has gone the extra mile to support Restart programme participants with the cost of living in Birmingham and Coventry.

Serco runs the Government’s Restart Scheme in the West Midlands.

As part of this work, the Birmingham team have introduced new initiatives including care packages for men and women that consist of toothpaste, shower gel, wipes, tissues and sanitary towels which help and support with period poverty.

Cost of living corner has been set up which lists support services that are available to participants as and when needed.

The team also offer fresh fruit, water and biscuits to all participants.  They understand that not everyone can afford snacks – and many participants attending appointments have not eaten and have missed meals.  Not only does this assist with immediate needs, but it also eases people along the path to work.

Meanwhile up the road in Coventry, Operations Manager Charlotte Webb and her team have set up ‘meals in a Bag’ for their Restart Scheme participants to take away.
